 Math - Our Grade 5's started working on a practice assignment, reviewing their rounding and estimation skills. They will get time to finish and hand in this task tomorrow. Our Grade 6's practiced comparing and ordering Integers. Grade 6 students should finish the following text questions for tomorrow:

 Gr6 - pg 80-81, Qs 2 - 7, 9, 10 (8, 12, 13)

We also started working on a new online platform for Math practice: Prodigy. Students can use the log-in info they got today to access this platform at home for extra practice.

ELA - Reminder that our story assignment (Gross / Boy and Mountain) is due tomorrow, and our first Book Review is due on Monday.

Social Studies - We started working on our "Every Child Matters" orange shirt designs today. We will finish these on Monday. Remember that Monday is also Orange Shirt Day, to show solidarity with those who have been affected by the Canadian Residential School system.

Word Work - We had time to review our Set 1 words today. Reminder we have a quiz on Monday.

 Math - Today we reviewed Rounding and Estimating (We all worked on the same material today, as this was valuable review for the Gr 6's). Finish the following questions from the Gr5 text for tomorrow (Gr 6 go this as a handout): Pg 51-52, Qs 4, 6a, 7a, 8-11

 Computers - We started into our Typing.com lessons today. Students should be finished up to the end of the "U, R, and K keys" lesson. If you need to catch up, remember you can log in and finish your lessons from any device with a keyboard.

 ELA - We had time to continue working on our ELA story assignments. We'll get one more class period to finish this task, and it will be at the end of the week. Reminder: Book Reviews are due in 1 week on September 29th.

 Word Work - On alternating weeks, instead of Spelling, we will have short Grammar lessons in our Word Work. Today, we learned about the different types of sentences, and reviewed end-sentence punctuation (remember to use it!)

 Terry Fox walk on Friday afternoon. We're accepting donations all week towards cancer research. All students are encouraged to bring $1 if they can, or more if they wish.

 Bishop Pocock school community BBQ tomorrow at 5:30! Come enjoy a hot-dog with your family. Hope to see you there!

 Social Studies - We had our Canada Map quiz today, and handed in our Map assignments as well.

Math - Students had time to finish and hand in yesterday's assignment, and then moved on with some extra practice on representing decimal numbers. Make sure yours is handed in, so that I can check for your understanding!

ELA - We had time to finish reading our first ELA story assignment (Gross / Boy and Mountain), and start writing our re-tellings. We will continue with this after the weekend. Make sure your Story Map is completed by Monday.

Terry Fox Run next week on Friday afternoon. Today we took some time to learn about Terry's story and his Marathon of Hope. Terry's goal was to raise 1 dollar for every Canadian, so each of us is encouraged to bring 1 dollar (or more) if they can, to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation. All money raised will go towards Cancer research. We also wrote about our response to Terry's story in our Reflection Journals this morning.

Reminder: Bishop Pocock Community BBQ is on Tuesday at 5:30. We hope you and your family can make it!

 Swimming tomorrow afternoon! Make sure to bring your swim suit, towel, and bag, along with 50cents if you choose to get a locker token. Also, if you typically go home over lunch, either bring a lunch tomorrow or plan to be back a bit early, as we'll be taking attendance and preparing for our walk at 12:30, so we can leave right at 12:40.

Make sure to return your Beaver Creek permission forms!

ELA - We had time to work on the Good Copy and Reflection of our novel study assignment. Plan to finish yours by tomorrow!

Science - We continued our research on our Science Inquiry projects. By the end of this week, we will be finished our research and moved on to creating our presentations next week.

Math - We had time to finish our Geometry questions from yesterday. Have them complete for tomorrow.

 3-Way Conferences Tomorrow! Here's some reminders for your meeting:

 -Student attendance is mandatory. If there isn't a time available where you are able to attend with your parent, I am happy to book a meeting after school on a day that works for your family.

 -Make sure to bring your Portfolio, and that your parent/guardian has looked through it prior to our meeting.

 -If you arrive and the door is closed, please do not knock or walk in. This means I am finishing up a prior meeting, and will be with you as soon as possible.

 -Please do what you can to be on-time for your interview, to support families with multiple appointment times.

I'm so excited to celebrate all your hard work with you!

Math - Grade 6's practiced measuring and naming angles. Grade 5's learned how to measure Capacity using mL, and should finish the following practice problems for tomorrow:

 Pg 153-154, Qs 2-8 (9)

ELA - We had time to work on completing our Rough Copy for our novel study assignments. Make sure your rough copy is finished for tomorrow, and ready to start Revising and Peer-Editing.

Word Work - We practiced proofreading notation, to prepare to edit our rough copies tomorrow. Spelling Quiz next week on Tuesday!

We had a chance to browse the Book Fair today! Items will be for sale during our 3-Way Conferences. (Payment is card only, no cash accepted).

 Parents/Guardians, make sure to sign up for a 3-Way Conference appointment for March 20th/21st. If you need support in booking a timeslot, you can contact Mrs. Pawlyk at our front office.

Term 2 Portfolios will be filled and brought home on Monday.

Math - We moved on in our Measurement unit to exploring the Volume of rectangular prisms. Complete the following textbook questions for tomorrow:

 5 - Pg 143-144, Qs 1, 3-5 (6-8)

 6 - Pg 237 - 238, Qs 1, 2, 5 (6-8)

Word Work - We wrote our Set 10 quiz today, and started work on our Set 11 word lists.

ELA - We continued work on the Rough Copies of our novel study written task.

Computers - We wrote our 3-Munite Typing Tests today, to mark the end of Term 2. You can log in to typing.com at home to show your parents/caregivers your results, and your growth since our previous tests in November and September.

Chip-Order fundraisers are due at the end of this week.

 Swimming tomorrow afternoon! Make sure to bring your bathing suit, towel, and a bag to hold your wet stuff afterwards. We will be boarding the bus at 12:45, so if you typically go home for lunch, plan to return as soon as possible. 

St. Valentines Day tomorrow! We made ourselves some desk-mailboxes today, for handing out valentines. If you choose to, please bring something for everyone. We'll have some time for relaxation and fellowship on Friday morning. Students are also free to bring non-electronic games or activities to enjoy together during that time.

Math - Students had a chance to finish their Unit 4 Tests today. We'll be going over them as a class tomorrow morning. 

Word Work - We had our Set 9 quiz this morning. We'll get our Set 10 lists after the break.

February Break next week, no school for students! Before the break, make sure you have handed in the following tasks:

 -ELA: All novel study assignments

 -Health: vitamins research and nutritional label assignment

 -Religion: Gospel Timeline and Reflection Journal

 -Science: Planet Flipbook
