ELA - Today we went over the conventions for including dialogue in our writing. Students were tasked with writing a short (1/2 -1 page) scene that includes dialogue, using the proper dialogue rules. This task should include a rough and good copy, and is due on Thursday.
Social Studies - We will be having a quiz on Canadian Government and the Federal Election on Wednesday, October 30th. Students received their reviews today.
Today we had several guests to our classroom! 4 parents visited us to speak about their careers, and the role that learning and cooperation plays in their success. A big thank you to our guest speakers!
Picture Retakes on Tuesday. If you are interested in getting retakes, you need to bring your proofs from your original photos to school on Tuesday.
Health - If you did not finish your coat of arms today, hand it in on Monday.

Math - Today we learned a mental-math strategy for multiplying any one-digit number by any two-digit number in our heads.
Today we had time to get together with our House League teams and prepare for our Gym Blast tomorrow!

Education Week - This week is Education Week in Canada! Our theme is "Working and Learning Together". Our class will be participating in a few activities throughout the week. Today we worked together with our care partners to help them with their academics. Later in the week, we will be participating in a class co-operative challenge in the gym with Mr. Goodman. On Friday, we will have a few parents come in to discuss what they do for a living and how education and on-going learning are important in their jobs. Thanks to all parents who have volunteered their time to support our students!
Social - Today is Election Day! Tomorrow, we will discuss the outcome of the election, and begin discussing what it means for Canadians.
Reminder that 2 assignments from Friday were due today: Debate Viewing response and your Student Vote response.

Education week is next week, from Oct 21-25th. It is a week where schools across the country are coming together to celebrate the role that education plays in our lives, under the theme "Working and Learning Together."
In the spirit of this theme, we are inviting parents/guardians into each classroom in our school to share the role that on-going learning plays in their workplace. If you are interested in coming into the classroom and speaking with class, a note will be coming home today with more details. You can view the note HERE.

ELA - Pre-writing tasks were due today
Social Studies - Today we learned about how our Canadian Parliament is selected, and how a Canadian election works to select Members of Parliament and a Prime Minister. We explored some of the major issues facing voters this election.
In preparation for our election on October 21st, each student will have a chance over the coming weeks to research the platform of each major political party, and come to their own informed opinion.
Religion - Gospel Timeline is due Monday.
Math - Today we started our Unit Reviews, in preparation for Wednesday's test on Whole Numbers. The reviews, as well as the Unit Problem, are due to be completed for Tuesday.
Donations - We are still accepting donations of non-perishable foods for the Friendship Inn. They have specifically asked for cereal, but all non-perishables are welcome. Any donation will earn you a "fish", for giving to those in need and acting as Jesus would.

Math - Today we looked at different strategies to estimate large whole numbers, including Compensation, Front-End rounding, and Compatible Numbers. Complete Pg 51-52, Qs 4-7, 12 (1-3, 9, 13).
The date of our first Math Test has been set for Wednesday, October 9th. We will start our Unit Review on Friday, and it will be due Tuesday.
