ELA - We read Chapters 12-14 today, and started our Section 5 questions today. These questions are due on Monday.

Cross Country Skiing - Our class is attending an introductory clinic on Cross Country Skiing hosted by the Saskatoon Nordic Ski Club, at Wildwood Golf Course on the morning of February 3rd. A note is being sent home today with more information. No parent volunteers are required, but parents are welcome to join us! If you would like to join us, please send me an email, so I can let them know about numbers.

Swimming - We will be going back to Harry Bailey Aquatic Center on the afternoon of February 10th. Notes will come home today with more information. Please return your note ASAP, and remember to indicate swimming-level on the forms.

Math - Test on Thrusday. We started our Unit Reviews today, these should be complete by the end of the day tomorrow.

Curling - We had our final session of curling at Granite Curling Club today!

Book Reviews due on Friday.

Religion - Today we read bible passages about Jesus' Apostles. There was a short assignment associated with it. Complete the handout, and hand in the reflection questions for Friday.

Math - Today we explored using the thousandths decimal place value to represent values with 3 decimal places. Complete the assignment for tomorrow: Pg 185-186, Qs 2, 3, 5-8, 13(11)

ELA - We had time to work on our Tuck Everlasting Section 3 questions, which are due tomorrow.

Today we took time to review our sledding guidelines. Feel free to bring your soft sleds to school!

Nutrition - Today we finished our discussion of carbohydrates. Students were given a short homework task: find 4 foods that you eat regularly, and note how many grams of sugar is in each food. Then complete a couple of response questions. There will be a homework check on this when we continue our Health unit on Thursday.

Math - Today we had a chance to reflect on the learning goals we've had so far this unit, and give ourselves a self-assessment on each of the skills we have covered. We will move on with a new skill tomorrow.

Arts- We had more time to work on our Foreshortening task. These are due on Friday.

Spelling - Today we had more time to work on our Week 11 lists. Quiz on Wednesday.

We were curling again today! We learned how to sweep, and throw the full length of the ice. Our last session is on January 28th, where we will play a full match!

We will NOT have indoor recesses next week. Make sure that you come dressed for the weather. Bring your soft sled if you would like to use the hill!

Math - Today we explored how to compare and order groups of fractions and decimals together. Complete our assignment for tomorrow, Pg 181-182, Qs 1-3, 5-7 (8)

Math-a-thon Fundraiser has begun! This has been a very strong fundraiser for our school in years past. Students are bringing home a pledge form today, and will be able to raise money to support them in their math quiz on January 30. Students have the opportunity to win fabulous prizes!

Health - Today we started our unit on Nutrition. We discussed what "Healthy Eating" means to us, and started learning about calories and carbohydrates.

Math - Today we explored how fractions are related to decimals, and learned to convert fractions into decimals and vice versa. Complete our assignment for tomorrow: Pg 178-179, Qs 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10 (7,11)

ELA - Today we got more time to work on our Section 2 chapter questions for Tuck Everlasting. These are due on Thursday.

Arts - We had more time to work on our Foreshortening task. These will be due next week.

Friday, January 10th, 2020

Activity Day - On March 12th, 2020, we will be having a school-wide activity day. Students will have the choice of signing up to go skiing at Table Mountain for the day, or playing sports and going bowling here in the city. Forms are coming home today with more information. Forms and payment are due back on January 31st.

Today we participated in a Blanket Ceremony, to represent the impacts of European colonization on the First Nations peoples of North America.

ELA - Tuck Everlasting Prologue-Ch2 questions were due today. Because of our class discussion regarding activity day, we did not read the next section today. We will move on with the book on Monday.

We spent the afternoon at Granite Curling Club today! We learned how to push off of the hack, and perform either an in-turn or an out-turn. Next week we will learn all about sweeping and pushing rocks the full length of the ice!

We have a parent volunteer in place for next week's field trip. We are still in need of a volunteer to join us for Tuesday January 28th. Please send me an email if you can attend.

Field Trip tomorrow! We will spend the afternoon at Granite Curling Club, for the first of our 3 curling excursions.
In order to participate, EVERY student must have an extra clean pair of shoes.
We still need a parent volunteer for our Jan17th and Jan28th excursions.

Spelling - We got more time to work on our Week 9 words.

Math - We worked on finding common denominators, and comparing and ordering fractions. We will not have math class tomorrow due to our field trip, so the assignment is due Monday.

Arts - We had time to work on our Foreshortening tasks.

Computers - We resumed our Typing.com lessons. Complete up to the end of "Z and Enter Keys" by next Thursday.

Thanks so much to the parents who volunteered to accompany us on our curling field trip on Friday! We are still in need of volunteers for our January 17th and January 28th trips.

Math - Today we got a practice page working on finding equivalent fractions. Complete and hand this in for tomorrow.

Health - Today we took some time to set some New Year's Resolutions!

Social Studies - Today we learned about Latitude and Longitude, and how to use coordinates to find a location on a map of the world. Complete our assignment for Monday.

ELA - We had more time to work on our questions for Tuck Everlasting Prologue-Chapter 2. This assignment is due Friday.

We are still in need of a parent supervisor for our Curling excursion this Friday afternoon. No curling experience necessary! Send me an email if you can attend.

ELA - Today we started our major novel study for the year. We will be reading Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit. There will be multiple assignments associated with the novel over the next 8 weeks. 

While we are reading the book, students will be tracking information from the novel in their Information Booklet, which will be handed in to be graded when we finish the unit. 

We will read the novel in sections, and each section will have a small assignment associated with it. This assignment will be due on the next day that we read the novel.

Today, we read Section 1, which included Prologue - Chapter 2. The assignment is due on Friday, when we read Section 2.

Math - Today we discussed how to find equivalent fractions. The assignment, Pg. 168-169, Qs 2,5,6,9(10) is due tomorrow.

Important! We are heading to Granite Curling Club for a learn-to-curl program for 3 afternoons this month. We are in need of at least 1 parent volunteer to accompany us for each one of the following dates. The first trip is this Friday, and we do not yet have a volunteer!

Spelling - We got our Week 9 word lists today.

Math - Today we took some time to go over our Unit 1 tests, which we wrote before the break. Then, we wrote and corrected our Pre-Assessments for Unit 5, Part 1. 

NOTE: Unit 5 is very large, and will be split into 2 tests. Part 1 will cover the fundamentals of Fractions and Decimals. Part 2 will cover Adding and Subtracting Decimals.

Arts - Today we learned about using foreshortening to add depth to an image. We started a new assignment, to create a self-portrait using foreshortening techniques.
